All the "little green apples" weighing down the fruit trees in July become crisp globes of red by early autumn. Washington State is known world-wide for its abundant apple crop, and these Fuji apples were nearly ripe for the pickin' last fall.
With the life-giving waters of the Yakima, Columbia and Snake Rivers, fruit orchards and vineyards flourish in the hot sun of the Columbia Basin.
But I long to roam in the orchard free,
The dear old orchard that used to be,
And gather the beauties that dropped for me
From the bending boughs of the apple tree.
