Northern Saw-whet Owl
The piercing stare of an owl, spellbinding and mysterious, seems to steal all your secrets. No sound or movement, made with even the utmost care, will escape an owl's exceptional sight and hearing. The Saw-whet Owl is so named because its alarm call resembles the shrieking sound made when a saw is sharpened or "whetted". We found this little owl, all 8" of it, in Sacajawea State Park, Pasco, WA.
