1.  A multi-layer undercoat of rich gold  for the blossoms will impart a strong glow to the bold orange hue of the final stage. A lighter, cool, lemon yellow works well under the green of the buds.

All my realistic paintings start with an accurate drawing, although the pencil lines are barely visible here. I usually erase them as I go, especially in areas that will remain very light in the completed painting.
2.  Leaves and buds stand out with a glaze of bright green.

5. Creases and folds in the petals stand out and the darkened center of each bloom recedes, accentuating the flared trumpet shape of Asiatic lilies.
6.  The background remains very light with only a few soft-edged areas. This, along with the blurred edges of the buds, portrays the scene in bright back-lighting.

Detailed stamens and spots on the petals enhance the realism of the lilies. Shafts of sunlight falling on petals of the lower bloom reveal a golden translucence.
4.  The first layer of tangerine orange emphasizes the shadowed areas of the petals, transforming them into
3-dimensional blooms.

Buds and leaves also take on more defined form with glazes of deep green.
3.  The diffuse background is established with freeform splotches of pale green and gold.  Blue will serve as the balancing complement to the petals after several glazes of orange are applied.
