Sometimes I see unique and interesting digital art and think "That's cool. Can I paint it?" I have a  photographer friend who has created some mesmerizing pieces that do not necessarily have recognizable objects, but instead have eye-catching patterns of color, value and shape.
2.  Maintaining the accuracy of the drawing in all four quadrants made this piece very challenging. Then there was the matter of matching up the paint in each section. I worked on a small area in one section, then immediately did the same thing in the corresponding areas.

When planning the painting, it was amazing how different the four possible designs looked when the quadrants were switched around. This arrangement was very pleasing.

5. The finished painting is very bold and I love how the circles of hearts enter the painting from all different points and meet in the middle. Hmm. Sounds like some good advice for the way we live and love.

4. This design is not considered a good composition technically, because everything is symmetrical.
I don't care. I think it's cool.
3.  I love the daring mix of hot pink, yellow/green and blue/green. This particular cultivar of Bleeding Heart with yellowish leaves is called 'Heart of Gold'.

1.  For Kaleidoscope of Hearts, I cropped a portion of a photograph of Bleeding Heart (above) which became the pattern for each quadrant of the painting. The red lines in step one show where the cropped image was placed. That image was then flipped horizontally (with Photoshop) to create a mirror image. BOTH of those images were flipped vertically to create THEIR mirror image.
